torn & tattered.

the title has a double meaning today.
torn: in my last pregnancy my water broke on this
day{yes, mark cant believe i am saying this...
modesty is out the window!]
i dont really want that to happen quite
yet {mostly because i want her birthstone
to be a diamond-april!} but
psychologically this pregnancy starts to
get really difficult because i am so ready to
have this baby out...and i cant help but think that within
five more days of my last pregnancy...jesse was out...
so she should be out soon!right!?!
tattered: yes i am worn out...and totally done being pregnant.

ok, i know pregnancy talk is not
that interesting
sooo.... the other
torn and tattered.

jesse's new room [once auntie alyson moves out]
is a torn and tattered nautical theme.
its that old fashioned really worn out nautical stuff i love.
it has been a little bit of a challenge because i have been trying to avoid re-painting the room color which does not match that torn
and tattered look i am going for. the color is an aqua blue.
so i have some pictures{they really did not turn out}that you can see of his new dresser...i tried to do a lime greenish base coat
with a taupe-ish overcoat that is crackled ...however my crackling did not go well.
yes, i took pictures of all my steps ...
pretending to be one of those famous bloggers
...i know i have a vivid imagination.

so this is how it started.

then i painted the base coat.
then i painted on elmers glue/or crackle paint: i used both.

when it was almost dry...put on the top coat.

here are some shots of the crackling...unfortunately they only came out to fine crackles...i wanted bigger ones...so i sanded the edges more to give it the worn look

the dresser complete.

and these two shots show all the "loot" so far that i have. those sticks on the side are the headboard for the bed that i made...
they are supposed to look torn and tattered: old vintage looking sails. the colorful folded fabic on the left is one of his pillow shams for his bedding, and the other fabric is for making other things like throw pillows and such.i will post pictures when i actually put it up in the room...hopefully it looks better than these pictures. :)!

  1. hey laura, great job! the paint looks really good even though the crackling didn't go like you planned. i think it may look even more old than if it was just straight crackle. anyway, you did great!! mom d
